Why Custom Fit?

Simple!

It is impossible to look at someone and know what size bike fits.  Imagine going to buy a suit and the shop assistant looks at you, hands you a suit and says “No need to try it on, this will be ideal for you.”   I know what I’d say.

Some bike manufacturers only make small, medium, and large sized bikes.  This is for their benefit not yours!  Imagine if shoes only came in size 4, 8 or 12.  Which would you wear?

At Birmingham City Cycles we take the time to measure EVERY customer purchasing one of our performance bikes, whether it is an entry level road or mountain bike or a top of the line carbon fibre dream bike. You are taken through our custom measuring service.

We normally charge £50 for this but it IS refunded at time of purchase.

What’s involved?

1. We start with a short interview, during which we discuss your cycling history and your future aspirations. By doing this, we will discover if you have any injuries or physical limitations that may currently inhibit your cycling performance.

   2. We will then measure you and take note of how your body is proportioned – for instance, have you got short legs in relation to your torso?
 
  3. We will then do some exercises to discover your core strength and flexibility/range of motion. By doing the exercises we will be able to better align your body when on the bike, and help increase your cycling efficiency. We can also recommend exercises to help you to increase your flexibility and core strength.
 
  4. Your cleat and pedal interface is of critical importance. Through this small area, all your power is transferred to the bike. By understanding the dynamics of your foot and leg biomechanics, we can stabilize your feet and legs for greater power, comfort and injury prevention.
 
 5. Once we have completed the fitting process we will have determined your new contact points. This information can now be used to adjust your current bike or be used to design a custom fit for your new bike. For the former, it may be a case of adjusting your stem choice, handlebar widths, crank lengths or seatpost layback.

Our custom fitting service is also available for those who already have their bike and wish to improve their comfort or performance.
